Close your eyes. Now, imagine your life as a college student. Are you blinded by your school colors? Maybe by flashes of a game-winning touchdown? How about images of rushing a fraternity or sorority? If any of these are hitting home, we might just have the perfect university for you! Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge could be considered the crowning example when it comes to the ultimate in college experiences.
If you attend LSU, you should be prepared to own at least ten pieces of purple and gold clothing for the rest of your life. School spirit might as well be a requirement to get in. The university is nationally known for its football team (for you athletes) and its legendary party scene (for all of you in the stands.) And if you need more proof that LSU loves spirit, just ask the university’s mascot, Mike the Tiger. You can find him in the form of a real Bengal-Siberian Tiger mix that lives in a 15,000 square foot habitat across from Tiger Stadium!
Although LSU is definitely a school for the socially butterfly, don’t let that fool you. Louisiana State has an inner bookworm too, and it flourishes in the areas of engineering, business, architecture, education, and fine arts. LSU is also one of only 30 universities nationwide designated as a land-grant, sea-grant, and space-grant institution, resulting in it being nationally noted for its extensive research facilities. It also ranks in the top 20 of undergraduate French programs in the nation. Il est super!
Located in the southern part of Baton Rouge, the university sits on more than 2,000 acres of land and is bordered on the west by the Mississippi River. It has over 250 principal buildings and landscaping that was called “a botanical joy” in its listing among the 20 best campuses in America. And if that isn’t enough, the city of New Orleans is just a short hour and a half drive from campus!
So if you are prepared to watch Saturday football for the rest of your life and can commit to bringing your future child home from the hospital in a “Tiger in the Making” onesie, LSU is definitely a place to add to your college list.
